  3. This is a patch kit for Data Diet v2.
  4. [Package version 2.0 (DATADIET.200, 0 byte file on MASTER) will be updated
  5. to 2.0a.]
  6.  
  7. Follow the directions listed below.  Failure to do so may result in your
  8. frustration.
  9.  
  10. This patch kit is designed to patch the following program(s):
  11.  
  12. DATADIET.PRG v2.0   ->  DATADIET.PRG v2.0a
  13.

  15. PART A
  16. ======
  17.  
  18. NOTE: You may want to temporarily add DIF as an excluded extender.
  19.  
  20. 1) UnLZH the file DD2UPD0A.LZH to a PATCH directory to get the following
  21.     files:
  22.  
  23.     Filename            Size

  25.     DATADIET.DIF        13084
  26.  
  27.     DD2UPD0A.PRG        2317
  28.  
  29.     DATADIET.20A - 0 byte version file
  30.     DD2UPD0A.TXT - update info

  33. 2) Copy the following "in-use" file(s) to the PATCH directory:
  34.  
  35.     DATADIET.PRG        13380
  36.  
  37. 3) The contents of the PATCH directory should now be:
  38.  
  39.     DATADIET.DIF
  40.  
  41.     DATADIET.PRG
  42.  
  43.     DD2UPD0A.PRG
  44.  
  45.     READ_ME.NOW
  46.     DD2UPD0A.TXT
  47.  
  48. 4) Execute the DD2UPD0A.PRG program in the PATCH folder.  You will be
  49.     presented with an alert box stating:
  50.    
  51.     Data Diet v2 Patch Update....
  52.  
  53.    Press the <RETURN> key.
  54.  
  55. 5) Next you will see another alert box:
  56.  
  57.     Insert your MASTER Data Diet v2 disk....
  58.  
  59.    Press <RETURN>
  60.  
  61.    Insert your MASTER Data Diet v2 disk into drive A: and press <RETURN>
  62.    NOTE: This disk must be _REGISTERED_!
  63.  
  64. 6) After the MASTER Data Diet v2 disk is verified, you will be presented
  65.     with another alert box stating:
  66.  
  67.     Ready to PATCH files!
  68.  
  69.    Press <RETURN>
  70.  
  71. 7) The next alert box will remind you of the brief procedure needed to
  72.     patch your program(s).
  73.  
  74. 8) Using the file selector, locate and select the following program(s)
  75.     in your PATCH directory to patch and create the NEW program version(s):

  81. NOTEs: All configuration information is kept intact for each updated file.
  82.        The next section covers this step in further detail.

  88. To patch a program, perform the following steps:
  89. ------------------------------------------------
  90.  
  91. 1) Use the file selector to locate the program to patch.  The program must
  92.    be in your PATCH directory.
  93.  
  94. 2) After you have selected the program to patch, the PATCH program will
  95.    look for the file named filename.DIF in the same location as the
  96.    selected program.
  97.  
  98.     where filename is the root filename of the selected program.
  99.  
  100.     EXAMPLE: If you choose DATADIET.PRG, the PATCH program will look for
  101.         the file named DATADIET.DIF in the same place as DATADIET.PRG
  102.  
  103. 3) The PATCH program will create the NEW program version, overwriting the
  104.    selected old program.
  105.  
  106. 4) If you have already patched the selected program, or the program you have
  107.    selected is not the correct version, or is otherwise unpatchable, the
  108.    PATCH program will present an alert box stating:
  109.  
  110.     Checksum error.
  111.  
  112.    Press return and select another program, or try again.  The PATCH program
  113.    will protect you from altering the wrong program.
  114.  
  115. 5) Repeat step 1 until you have selected all programs.
  116.  
  117. 6) Click on the CANCEL button in the file selector to end the patch
  118.    procedure.

  125. Copy the patched program(s) to your work disk as described on pages 8-11
  126. in your Data Diet manual.
  127.  
  128. We suggest that you either keep the PATCH archive or a new PATCH disk for
  129. future reference.  Should more patches be needed, they will be based on
  130. the latest version.
  131.  
  132. We suggest that you DO NOT copy the new program(s) to your MASTER disk
  133. until you have verified operation.

  140. Several other conditions may occur which will stop the PATCH process.  In
  141. any of the fatal patch conditions, an alert box will be displayed.
  142.  
  143. Alert                           What to do
  144. -----                           ----------
  145.  
  146. Load error                      Make sure the program selected is not damaged
  147.                                 Make sure the disk is not damaged
  148.                                 Make sure the correct disk is inserted
  149.                                 Copy the file(s) to the PATCH folder again,
  150.                                 as stated above in Part A, step 2
  151.  
  152. Malloc error                    Your system does not have enough memory to
  153.                                 perform the PATCH process.  Reboot with a bare
  154.                                 system, or remove some items which are taking
  155.                                 up memory.
  156.  
  157. Write error                     Make sure the disk is not write protected
  158.                                 Make sure the disk is not damaged
  159.                                 Make sure the disk has enough free space
  160.  
  161. Checksum error                  Make sure you have selected the original
  162.                                 program file.
  163.                                 Make sure you have copied the correct
  164.                                 program file.
  165.                                 Make sure you have selected the correct
  166.                                 program (retry).
  167.                                 Copy the file(s) to the PATCH folder again,
  168.                                 as stated above in Part A, step 2
